What to do when you get a court or police notice

Do not ignore it, check that it is real, note the dates, and get the right help.

1. Do not ignore it

Court and police notices often have a hearing date or a deadline. Missing it can make things harder.

2. Check that it is real

Search for the case number on the official court or police website or app. Scam messages sometimes copy court language and ask for payment.

3. Write down the key details

  • 1Case number
  • 2Court or police station
  • 3Hearing or response date
  • 4What you are asked to do

4. Get the right help

GulfExplain can explain what the notice says, but it cannot advise you on what to decide. Speak to a lawyer, a legal aid service, or the Indian embassy or consulate.

If your passport is held, your salary is unpaid for months or you feel unsafe, contact the Indian embassy or consulate first.
